There's also the issue of the 'reverse' plugin that doesn't show in 7 after you install 8.04 (again, if you make a copy of it first and put it back in you're fine). I think you could swap out the V8 plugs with the V9's, and swap out the V8 and V9 components in the components folder and you could work without incident, but that obviously would be at least a minor hassle. If you really have to work in 7.24 extensively, you may have to endure the occasional crash with the V9 plugs if you're opening and closing windows, etc. Hmmm.like the computer in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy said, "I'll have to think about it". I think where this leaves me is that if I want to use any of my 32-bit only plugs or VI's I'll have to run 8.04 in 32-bit, and record the VI parts as audio and also do bounces of tracks with 32-bit plugs, then proceed to 64-bit land when I'm sure I'm done with the 32-bit stuff. It will have to be 8.04 (either 32-bit or 64-bit). So apparently when I make the move to Waves V9, that's the end of working in 7.24. V8 plugs, and the V9 plugs definitely don't work reliably in 7.24 (because they are Cocoa-based, and 7.24 is not). I also have found no problems opening projects when switching between 8.04/32 bit, 8.04/64 bit, and DP7.24 even when files were altered in one or the other.ĭavid Polich wrote:Ok, never mind, after reading the archived thread about Waves 9 not beingĬompatible with 7.24, I see how it works now. A bit time-consuming loading the latest versions and authorizing things, but after observing the various pitfalls and knowing in advance what works and what doesn't by reading posts on this board, KUDOS indeed to MOTU. I am also about to install jBridgeM, which will at least still be useful for B4II and a couple others even after if the ST/Miroslav sounds are ported over.Īs Kubi pointed out in another thread, it really is amazing how seamless this transition is. At least it's on the drawing board.Īnother pleasant surprise was that my Amplitube 2 amps and presets run great in Amplitube 3 which is already 64 bit.

I've been pleased to find out that Sampletank and other iK's should soon be 64 bit (fall or late fall?) and equally pleased that Drumcore 4 64 bit is also coming out hopefully later this year.

Of course all the 32 bit only plugs would need to be bridged, and we are talking almost exclusively about iK Multimedia plugs and some other strays like Drumcore. For what I do I can think of no reason at this point why I would need to complete a project in 7.24 that I couldn't do equally as well in 8.04/32 bit.įrom there it was onward and upward to 64 bit world, and that has also proceeded almost without hiccup.

I have experienced no difference in 'feel' and functionality by going back and forth between 7.24 and 8.04 in 32 bit mode. So.having backed up my V8 system, I downloaded and installed V9 and all my Waves plugs, and everything is authorized via the new cloud system.Īll has gone smoothly. But tech support did say something about the V9 downloads overwriting the V8 plugs, so just going back and forth on the same machine might be possible, but not advised. I also know that your V9 licenses (cloud) do not override your V8 licenses (iLok2). I remember hearing that V9 versions had a couple little anamolies in 7.24, crashing if you closed a plug window during play or something similar. Just to be safe, I first saved my V8 version plugins and V8 Component (in the plug in components folder) in an 'off campus' folder. I also upgraded to Mountain Lion, so have spent a lot of time recently cloning and phoning.

I finally installed DP8.04 a couple weeks ago and have gradually been upgrading and testing a wide array of projects and plugs in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
